We are a lost society
I.
We are a lost society;
Necessity has been replaced with raging greed;
As frequent and grotesque as the ones who came before it.
Lust, Envy, Pride.
I speak to you as the chorus speaks to the people;
Once musical now demanding;
Demanding your attention, your dedication, your loyalty.
Your life.
II.
And the cracks the traveler makes as he walks through the snow
Have long been swallowed by the hallowing wind.
Sermons have flown past your ears and responses of praise have escaped from your lips,
though of what their meaning is, you are not sure.
Keep your sanity and keep your mind clear.
Stockholm Syndrome.
Soon you’ll see only positive,
Never negative.
III.
We are a fallen society;
Invincible though already defeated.
Out of breath while
Water cascades down the body,
Moist lines down cheeks of faded color.
Honesty is the best policy,
Therefore, you will be honest.
Outside threats pound on inside perfections.
Perfect is as chaos does.
IV.
We are a broken society;
We are insatiable,
Hungry from the first light of day until
The last light of dusk dies with the remainder of the world.
Our ignorance fuels their fire;
They operate as we continue;
Not knowing how meaningless they’ve become.
V.
Escape.
Erase.
Eradicate.
We are a lost society;
We will become silhouettes against the sunrise;
Actions as mechanical as the metal monsters
That now populate a world once lush.
I’ll be gone and
You’ll be gone
In a day or two.
"This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
Not with a bang but a whimper. "*
*T.S. Eliot
