The Other Side of the Mirror
It’s true what they say; there is a world on the other side of the mirror
And, if you’re not careful, you might just fall through
And step into a divine hallway, the walls dazzling with diamonds
Feeling the softest down feathers underneath your feet.
You inhale— not oxygen, but a blend of bliss, euphoria. . . pure contentment.
You stride down the hallway, skipping along the cushiony floor
With each drag you can almost taste the sweet, ecstatic atmosphere.
It’s as if the mirror you passed into was a filter that sifted out
All of your suffering and worry, blocking them from entering its field
It only gets more alluring as you continue on
The diamonds turn into rainbows and the feathers to clouds
You feel lighter than air, without your former cares weighing you down
Hours flash by. . . then days. . . perhaps even years
It’s as if the Mirror World is unsusceptible to the chains of time
Eventually you begin to grow weary, begin to wonder
When this whimsical walkway will end
Slowly the rainbow walls morph into a murky smog
The clouds cast out scores of crisp, cutting raindrops
Your legs are automatic, laboriously lugging you along deeper into this illusion
The mirror is a deceptive trickster, draping itself in a seductive disguise
Luring all who long for a more lavish, satisfying life into its lair
Feeding off of grief, fear and suffering.
The choice is yours if you want it to end; after all, you aren’t there by chance.
It’s true what they say; there is a world on the other side of the mirror
And, if you truly long to live again, you can come back.
