Shattered Core
Faces paint themselves with agony when familiar footsteps enter their path
Focus tortured eyes on anything but the deadly shadow creeping by
The body remains sluggish on the cold floor
My body
But the rest is somewhere else now
Nails embedding in tiny feet
Arms curling around swift legs
Eyes boring into her back
All that’s left is an empty shell leaning lifeless against a silver locker
The core is fire entangling her hair
The core is fingers lacing hers
It is finding her scent
My core is dust landing upon her lashes
It is everywhere but the place it should be
Anywhere but holding my shattered pieces together
