The bench of life
I saw an old man sitting on a bench
and so I asked him "How happy can life be?"
He said "Dear child the thirst of life is one you can't quench
unless you see all you want to see."
So, I went to Rome first
and Italy last
but I couldn't quench my thirst
and life seemed to be going by fast.
So tired and weary
I went home
feeling quite dreary
thinking about Italy and Rome.
I went to got see my family for the holiday
and I found that that was the place I best fit
then i saw happiness coming my way
and I really did love it.
A couple years later I got a husband to love
and we were quite content
then we had a child...our little gift from above
and we bought our own house...no need to pay rent
I watched my child grow
and smiled everyday
and got used to the flow
and I was happy in every way
One day when I was walking I saw a fiamiliar old man with a smile
He said "So dear child are you still thirsty for life?"
I sat down so we could chat for awhile
I told him my story of traveling, having a kid and being a wife
So he said " So dear child I see you're not thirsty for life anymore
so I won't offer you a drink."
I smiled and said "If you saw a picture book of my life now it might look like a bore
but it's just what I've always wanted to see (then I threw him a wink.)
