Black Veil (A Villanelle)
I try to uncover the black veil on your face
Immobile are my tried and decaying bones
I walk away, as you feel the empty space
What I desire to be known is my Grace,
But the cloak upon your face, oblivious to what is shown
I try to uncover the black veil on your face
The cloak I can’t remove it, your thoughts are displaced
Makes what is obvious to others, to you it is unknown
I walk away, as you feel the empty space
I start to leave, but then my footsteps begin to retrace
As I need to display to you what is thought to be well-known
I try to uncover the black veil on your face
I am back again, here in this very same place
A biting room of torment, where I shiver alone
I walk away, as you feel the empty space
There’s that sense of emptiness you feel, it cannot be erased
You realize the source, as you feel the decay of your tiresome bones.
You try to uncover the black veil on My face,
I walk away, as you feel the empty space
