"Carpe diem."

A lone trumpeter stands
On a darkened stage
To fervent applause
Before he plays

Suddenly a sound
Blasts from his horn
The audience cheers
And jazz music is born

Down on the floor
The dancing begins
The stage lights up
And the crowd grins

The band leader sings
Scatting and prancing
The notes warm the soul –
Speak of love and romancing

Together it grows
And the writing starts,
Artists and singers
With jazz –
Beating in their hearts

Only the smart, talented, amazing, and insane are remembered in history.

Oooooh! I could practically hear the snappinig of people's fingers and just the great time everyone is having. It's a nice change from the generally abstract, emotional pieces put up on here. Nice!

"the shadow proves the sunshine!"

very great poem, capturing the revelry of music! the only place where i see a small inconsistency is the 3rd stanza, on the last line. it seems it's missing a syllable? though that could just be the way i read it.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results
