America
From the old world they came, and spoke of
Freedom, revolution,
Independence.
Two centuries later, America stands,
as power.
Power.
All crave it, but none can retain it for long.
Time will erode and chip away until alas,
it is gone again, for
Mother Nature loves entropy.
Maybe now it is different.
Maybe now humankind can conquer the laws of the ancestors.
Could an empire so vast and so fresh withstand the tests of time?
Two centuries from now, will America still stand?
What nation will speak of freedom and independence in her place,
one cannot know.
Past empires—Babylon, Greece, Rome—rule only history books now.
In her youth America has risen above,
but as the earth rotates round and round, may she persevere?
