the truth
i like what you buy me
and what you surprise me with.
i like the way you let me skive
and how you took me to see wicked- live.
i like how you buy me books;
whichever ones i pick.
i like how you buy me episodes
of shows you can’t stand.
but i do not love any of these.
you’re my dad;
i love you simply for that.
i love you for what you are,
and what you are not.
i love you because you are you.
i love you for what you say,
for what you think,
for what you mean..
not what you do.
i don’t care what you buy me,
it’s all fudge in the end.
thank you for bringing along a friend,
but it’s our relationship i’m dying to mend.
soon i’ll be off in college,
it’s not that far away.
so please understand
i don’t care if we go to paris or our backyard,
if we drink instant coffee or imported wine,
if we’re together i’ll be fine.
