The Road of Hope
The Road of Hope
The sign in front of us mockingly tells us that next time, we should try the train and relax.
My anger starts to grow as I turn my head back to the dirt road in front of me.
“Next time take the train,” it says, like next time we might have a choice.
“Next time take the train,” it scoffs, reminding us that there might have to be a next time.
Another new beginning, or maybe just another end.
We’ve been walking for miles, but so far there’s been nothing new about it.
Just us and the dirt road, as it leads us to a new life.
The dirt road is the only thing left stable, the only thing that I can actually count on.
The one last piece of my life that I know will keep going,
or at least I know that I can always come back.
So I keep walking as I feel my old life filter away.
But somehow I feel as though this road might hold opportunities,
or maybe just dirt.
