Roman Souls
Trapped in the old ways
All the forgotten souls
Fought in great armies
Did what they were told
Confronted by families
A man worth his salt
Said “Yes, I slew them all,”
“But it wasn’t my fault.”
Trapped in the old ways
All the souls of crumbled pages
Followed kings and murdered queens
Dripping fear across the ages
A leader of a legion
Clutched a baby in his arms
Said “If this is the enemy,”
“I can do no more harm.”
A weathered veteran
Says he lost his pride
Wore his plume for years
Until his loved ones died
Trapped in the bloody ways
All the forgotten souls
Fought in great armies
Gallant, bloodstained and bold
Their names now faded
Like the armor they once wore
The forgotten souls echo
Deep in the Earth’s core
