Separation MAG
Mara and Danny walk through the halls together
alone, everyday - as close as two people can be
They stroll past the ripped posters,
past various announcements to join clubs,
full of bright colors that jump off the walls
urging students to become members of the Spanish club,
the tutoring service,
but Mara isn't interested,
so neither is Danny.
When Mara cuts class,
they both go to the principal's office
spending an hour in detention together.
The school wouldn't be the same
if they were apart;
closer than the hands on a clock
at twenty to eight
But in two months a lot will change;
In two months, Mara hopes to graduate
and Danny
will be born.
