afraid of the dark
The sun falls and the light dims
We retreat to the bed as if it were our salvation
The innocent nighttime creeks may as well be menacing footsteps in the unknown darkness
The shadows torment me with a spectacle of horrors I know must not be there.
Yet as I finally drift off I hear the quiet creek of my old door open and the feeling of being watched
Alas I know it’s too late; I’ve already slipped into the darkness and given up all hope of escape
The parents reassure our safety encouraging the dive into darkness, insisting it’s our imagination
,but what safety is there for a scary imagination?
