In the heart of America, my little home in New Jersey,

I celebrate Chinese New Year for everyone to see.

In the glow of red lanterns, our spirits fly high,

As I watch the Red Dragon Dance on TV in the sky!

Thinking of red envelopes filled with blessings from elders,

There are plenty of young and eager collectors;

Good wishes for prosperity, luck, and cheer

Are heard in the laughter that fills the air!

Mom’s red Qi Pao shines with intricate gold threads,

Enveloped in her heritage and pride, she gracefully treads.

While my American Dad can’t help but admire,

Entranced by her elegant cultural attire.

As the steam from the bamboo steamers rises,

The aroma of the delicious dumplings spreads.

Boxes of tangerines and oranges shine bright,

As we gather around the table for a feast in sight.

The main course is delivered to the center of the table:

A platter of cooked fish on New Year's Day is a staple.

Everyone around the table cheers to good luck,

And all are hoping this year to make a good buck.

Once the plates are cleared and polished,

Everyone turns to look out the window astonished.

The vibrant, loud fireworks outside are exploding,

Leaving many to ponder what the year is beholding.

I was inspired to write this piece around Chinese New Year. I celebrated with my family and was reminded of my unique heritage.
