Born of the Seafoam
Lady from the sea
Edvard Munch
Born of the Seafoam
Her body,
Melting as sand in water,
Disappeared into its murky depths
Water clung to her like a second skin.
Skin as pale as moon,
And hair flowing like water.
Birthed from the sea’s depth.
Soaked in water, the moon laughed,
Reflecting its light off the droplets on her skin.
Her hair coarse against her back,
soaked with remnants of the sea.
Salt and rocks clung to her bare form,
mixed in her hair.
She relished in her new life of being reborn,
From the seafoam.
So now she lies,
In the rippling waves.
The level rising to suffocation
The chore of existence,
A heavy burden
Each breath a reminder
Of whence she came
Though she cannot return
To the murky depths,
And into the seafoam

This is an ekphrastic poem that describes a painting by Edvard Munch called "Lady from the Sea" which so happens to be one of my favorite art pieces by Edvard.
