A Royal Blue [On Disintegration]
The bird, blue bold and bright, draws my eyes from the sky.
Such a pure color it boasts with pride.
As if something found in a fairytale,
like an enchanted gem waiting to be found.
Though something was off–no, it couldn't be–
maybe it was a figment of my imagination.
It seemed this creature was injured.
With seed I had in my pocket, and some chirps,
I persuaded the bird to float towards me.
It landed nearby; with a watchful eye, it hopped closer.
Sunlight peeked through the trees, commending its feathers.
With a sudden jolt forward, the bird thrashed in the box.
Bursts of energy radiated from the contraption.
It struggled to fly with its feathers in a jumble.
A stray tail feather detached from its body,
as this once radiant, royal bird looked up at me longingly.
