Favorite Quote:
Stop and smell the flowers.

Jagged driftwood matches the rocky bluffs.
I dodge it gracefully.
The silent, sleepy ocean doesn’t make a peep,
a glass reflection of the Earth.
The crystal blue water is perfect for finding my lunch.
Oh, it’s our first meal without them here.
I follow my brother, who must have spotted his meal.
Behind me is my sister, the smallest of us all,
but for sure the toughest,
just like dad.
She was the only one brave enough
to dive from the tallest peak next to our nest.
She almost flew into Shark Fin Rock,
but she saved herself at the last second.
If mom and dad were still here,
I bet they wouldn’t have been too happy.

This is an ekphrastic poem I wrote inspired by Enchanted Island, 1978, by Millard Sheets.
