United We Stand
“I pledge allegiance to the flag” Is what we’re taught in school.
Everyday we recite these words, without thinking about it more.
Standing up, placing your hand on your heart, is simply an unwritten rule.
One indivisible nation under God, is what we are to be thankful for.
It’s the brave and selfless soldier who defends our freedom song.
Men and women who give their all, so that we may sleep in peace,
To those who died so Liberty may live, is where our prayers belong.
May our thanks be forever known, and our appreciation never cease.
We mustn’t forget our Lady Liberty, so beautiful, strong, and bold,
She holds the symbol of independence, all through the day and night
She keeps watch over each of us, no matter how young or old,
Lady Liberty is a reminder to us that we must always do what is right.
The Bald Eagle is our symbol of independence, and victory,
What an awestruck moment it is to see the mighty bird soar,
The next time you see an eagle, think about America’s history
Think about what you have right now, and what God may have in store.
-Hailey Nowack, United We Stand, 2022
“Then Join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall;
In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed,
For Heaven approves of each generous deed.”
-John Dickinson The Liberty Song, 1768

Hey! My name is Hailey. I am 17, and from Wisconsin. I wrote this piece to go along with a painting I did, for my local VFW post, art competition.
