Green Light
I might as well set my compass backwards
For you always thrust me in the opposite way
Your arrows command me to turn right
Knowing I want to flee left that day
Right when I’m accelerating to the peak
Your yellow light steps in and tells me to pause
Although I make sure to look both ways
I feel I can never satisfy your cause
On some days when I wake up
You’ve already blocked my route to the top
I panic and ponder another way around
But your red light glares at me to stop
So today I’ve finally gathered my nerve
Demanding you to hand over that green light
I just want to go, to charge, to soar
If only you’ll hand me the rope to my kite
Unlock my chains and untie my wings
You both know that is no lie
Dearest mom and dad, you know I love you so
But the time has come for me to fly
