Tired eyes linger on the brink of closing
On your Minnie Mouse pillow in the
Back of the car,
What runs through your head, I would
Only kill to know, I saw you grow
And I miss your little-girl glow
What was once an afro of
Black, curly hair is now straight
And manicured like
Your posture.
What was once a tomboy
Delight is now a refined and
Civilized sight.
I miss those days when
Cousins' love was abundant
As the hibiscus bushes.
We would run through
High grass, spastic laughs
Of glee, ticklish sides
And just the thought of being free
And just the thought of being free
As the hibiscus bushes sway
Only to be but dust within a day
Plush, orange petals like those
Of your cheeks.
