Teachers of my Youth
Pushing and pulling, and forcing me to be
The best that I can
In this unforgiving land of opportunity:
The teachers of my youth.
During the supposed best years of my life,
You’ve dared me to do my best.
And I’ve tried to do it, even through untold strife.
The teachers of my youth.
Unsung heroes of old,
Have nothing on you.
You’re the best there is, I’ve been told:
The teachers of my youth.
I’m thankful for you,
The unsung heroes of new,
Pushing me to give what you are due.
Through war, pain, and people uncouth,
You alone remain: the teachers of my youth.
