Your Poetry Cuts Deep

I’ve found myself awake at night,

Because your poetry cuts deep,

You wanted so to escape this world,

To reach eternal sleep.

I felt deplorable, so adorable,

I wasn’t allowed to look,

And while I was young and innocent,

I still don’t understand how I mistook.

I find myself unable to move,

Because your poetry cuts deep,

It’s unfortunate misfortune,

The cycle I upkeep.

You’ve saved me once, and maybe twice,

I remember their despair,

Because while this sickness doesn’t make you selfish,

Their hearts will never repair.

I find myself remembering you,

Because your poetry cuts deep,

You loved as hard as we loved you,

No longer will they weep.

I was inspired for this piece when I thought of the poetry my aunt wrote before she committed suicide. I was fortunate enough to read some and I think about it every time I write a poem.
