A Face Out of Many (Puppy Love)
Puppy Love Part 1
Your big blue eyes confounded me
And I was utterly mystified by your beauty
For so long I’d been trying to overcome the “friend” boundary
But you’d continue to not interpret my signs clearly
Your clever clichés never failed to make me smile
I dreamt about getting to know you for a while
Your immaturity attracted me
Why?! You ask. Don’t. I wish I had known just as badly
Any day without your childish grin was gloomy
But when you were up to no good your eyes would gleam faintly
I could tell seeing the real you would be worth my while
We both know you had put on a face at school; a defile
Puppy Love Part 2
I could tell you liked me too
But it was about time you got a clue
Where are thou Romeo? What happened to us, to you?
Our friendship started falling apart right on cue
When it should have grew
Your feelings for me were swept away like the wind that blew
But mine for you never went askew
Every morning at school I would look around and see if you were there too
I would like to say that after a while I outgrew my old feelings for you
But in reality I fell hard and fast but I never got up through and through
You let me down Romeo, and there was nothing I could do
Puppy Love Part 3
Now you’re just a face out of many
And I know it’s truly over, the words ringing with finality
Sometimes when I gaze at you lamely
Our eyes meet and you smile back lightly
I can’t help but picture what might have been, my eyes and thoughts misty
You were my first puppy love but now just a face out of many
