Forgive me mommy
Forgive me mommy, I know I’m wrong
For sitting and trying to write my own song
You tell me, “Baby it’s for your own good”
And I do listen, but not like I should
I sit in my room and cry to myself
While you sit in the church and pray for God’s help
Then we meet at the table over turkey and rice,
Smile and eat silently, trying to play nice
But… before long a battle begins
One that we both are sure we will win
We argue and fight from dusk until dawn
But we’re sure to make up before the last song is sung
So forgive me mommy, I know when I’m wrong
But I feel that now I can write my own song
You’ve raised me well, though good morals and teaching
But now I think it’s time for me to move on my own reasoning
Don’t worry I’ll always be your baby at heart
But we both now sooner or later, I’ll have to start
Forgive me mommy, but I’ve got to be real
And tell you that’s its time I made my own deals
It’s my life to live and my decisions to make
And can’t find myself with you always in wake
So forgive me mommy, I know when I’m wrong
But this is only the first verse, in me writing my own song
