Plot, Plot, Plottttt: Types of Stories!
Hi again. This would be section 2 of my writing advice series. If you are still here, congrats! you're willing to put up with me!
Okay, down to business. This section is on..check the title. Uh-huh.
So basically, there are 3 types of stories:
1. the heroic quest. 2. Boy meets girl/girl meets boy. 3. redemption.
for examples in that order: The Hobbit, Matched, A Christmas carol.
if you want to go into detail, there are types of stories:
1. Overcoming the monster: Beowulf, Redwall novels.
2. Rebirth/renewal: It's a wonderful life, a Christmas carol, Fireproof.
3. Quest: The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings.
4. Journey back: The wizard of Oz, the Homeland trilogy, My heart remembers.
5. Rags to riches: Prince and the pauper, Oliver Twist.
6. Tragedy: Hamlet, War horse, How green my valley.
7. Comedy: A mid-summer night's dream, Pride and prejudice, Duck soup.
8. Romance: Matched trilogy.
so before you get anywhere, figure out what kind of story you're telling.
