"wow, you have a shit-ton of cheese."

We have reached a time of tight shirts, skinny jeans, plastic bead bracelets, and where a 16 year old wearing "dora the explorer" is "cool".

Where my chemical romance is "saving lives".

Even Jesus sold out.

Were all on the edge of our seats waiting to see what Brittney does next.

Caught in a world of Louis Vitton and Juicy Couture.

What's "in" and what's "out".

Bell-bottoms are "retro".

I find myself longing for for 1996.

Where the only thing on my mind was playgrounds, candy, and Power Rangers.

Neon-colored sweat pants were "in".

My favorite band was "the Beatles".

And my wardrobe consisted of silly dresses and outfits modeled after Madonna when she first came out.

The other day, I sat and watched children play in their front yards.

And thought about the days of grass-stained knees.

When torn-holes in your pants got sewn up.

And your mom always made sure you had a pair of shorts under your skirt so the boys wouldn't see your underpants when you were doing cartwheels.

When the goal of recess was to master getting on top of the monkey bars.

Trying to be first outside so you could get a jump-rope before they were all gone.

You were a undercover super-hero.

I miss those days.

When you didn't even know what sex was.

Let alone the power of it.

Or the damage.

Now your caught in that robotic circle of clinics.

Picking up birth control and getting checked for STD's.

I remember the war between the Poke'mon kids and the Digimon kids.

Your "click" was determined on whether you watched Power Rangers or Ninja Turtles.

Where everyone's shoes lit up.

=D

Take me back.

To when we still liked school lunches.

And we had a new best friend every other day.

But we didn't care.

...
Someone once said:
"Whatever happend to sex, drugs, rock & roll? Now all we have is AIDS, crack, and techno."

I think that pretty much sums it all up.

"Life is like a roller coaster. When you don't know what to do buckle up, close your eyes, and enjoy the ride."

I forgot how much the world has changed. I remember I owned 7 or 8 different colors of sweat pants. When it was ok if the girls wanted to play kickball with the boys at recess. Where if they pushed you it didn't mean they liked you, it meant you were in their way. The good old days.

I miss the good old days too. I miss playing in the mud and getting to wear strange looking clothes without getting made fun of. <3 This is a great poem/article (haha, i can't really decide, i feel stupid for that) and it reminds me of the good old days(: Thanks for posting this.

yeah, im really upset with this new "cool". our generation is "indie",where being different is in,but differentwithin certain perameters, and regardless, its conformity nonetheless.

your poem reminds me of the goodolddays, of where we came from, we wouldmake mudd pieswith anyone...
