Gun Control
Guns have been the cause of many deaths across the United States. Between 2000-2010, 335,609 people died a year because of gun violence. While many people feel they are safer when carrying or keeping a fire arm close by, owning personal firearms must be outlawed because children innocently die when firearms are in the home and people with mental health issues have access to weapons. Children innocently die when carrying a fire arm.
Many people don’t make the right decisions when many people’s lives could be at risk. The first reason is when having a fire arm in your house it can be a very dangerous situation especially if you have kids. “About 7,000 kids are hospitalized or killed due to gun violence an Additional 3,000 kids die from gun injuries before making it to the hospital. Because of guns somebody is shot wounded and possibly killed every 17 seconds.
People with mental health issues have access to weapons. There have been many deaths because of shootings all over the world. One of those shootings was a soldier with 'mental health issues' Kills other army soldiers before killing himself (Fort Hood Shooting). Another deadly shooting took place on a Monday at a navy yard where 7 of 12 people were reported dead including the gunman. The gunman had walked in the navy armed and shot 7 people. “On April 16, 2007 at the Virginia tech campus in Blacksburg leaving at least 33 people dead.” At least 15 other pedestrians were wounded during the tragic shooting.


People are mature enough to carry a gun or firearm. Carrying a fire arm allows safer protection for families in the United States. There have multiple homes that have broken into over the years and many families say that having a gun helped prevent any harm to their selves including their own children. “On February 12, 2007 in a square mall a police stopped a gunman armed with a shotgun, and a 38 caliber pistol and a bag full of ammunition after killing 5 innocent people, if it wasn’t for that armed officer many more lives would have been lost.” After the officer pinned the intruder down the SWAT came and took him away to prevent any other deaths.

Although guns have been harmful in many ways it has killed and ruined many people’s lives leaving many people without families, sometimes mothers and fathers are taken away from their children from people misusing guns by killing and injuring others. Many people are not mature enough to carry guns because of the harm they bring to people. On the other hand, guns can be a useful source when it comes to protection which is why people must make mature decisions and do the right thing when carrying a gun cause it puts many people’s life at risk. Guns have become a harmful weapon created by people over the years being used to kill and harm innocent people and children. (Alex Johnson)
