A Song Of Hope MAG

By Anonymous

   Mama's always talkin'

'bout the world she used to know

When America was the dream

and a dream was good to go.

When kids were kids, games were games,

guns were filled with water

But . . .

what the years have taught her!

Little girls and doubledutch . . .

today, they dare to dream

Their hands caught in tangled rope,

I hear them scream.

Black boys and nappy hair . . .

do the ends justify the means?

As bullets rivet through the air

and kill their dreams.

Sirens drown my mother's voice . . .

gunshots cry of fear

Who's left to sing a song of hope

when all the smoke is cleared?
