No Uniforms In Public Schools MAG

By Anonymous

It's a beautiful, warm spring day in May 2010. The birds are singing, and the bees are buzzing. Everything is full of life, except for public schools. The sounds of students marching in single line echoes through the air. They obey every command given by their drill sergeants (teachers). Their independence and creative spirit have been taken away from them. High school has become like the U.S. Army. The reason for this change: school uniforms.

Ever since the implementation of the use of uniforms as a mandatory dress code by President Clinton in 1996, the school system has taken a turn for the worse. At first the schools were the same, except everyone wore the same clothes. Because of uniforms, gang violence slacked off a little. This was expected and the number of killings for a pair of $90 sneakers or a cool shirt was drastically cut. The government was happy with the results, but they wanted to try and end violence totally.

To do this, they passed a law that declared make-up and jewelry illegal. The students couldn't understand this. All of a sudden, the government thought that make-up and jewelry were just as bad as alcohol and drugs. Violence did subside a bit, but this was the beginning of the end for the government. This law angered the students.

The next law they passed said that all boys had to shave off their hair and all girls had to cut their hair so it was shoulder length. Some students were fine with a dress code and the abolition of jewelry and cosmetics, but all of them were outraged at the idea that everyone have the same haircuts. Students protested, but the government prevailed.

After Clinton won re-election, these laws were put into effect. The students felt that they had lost their individuality and creative spirit. Because of the hatred for the laws, many students resorted to violence, this time against the teachers! The government then sent in military officers to enforce the laws and put down student uprisings. The students felt threatened by the government intervention. The protests continued, and the government had two choices: they could restore things to the way they had been or they could turn the public schools into military academies. Because they couldn't admit they were wrong, thye chose the latter.

Do you really want the school system to end up like this? If you don't, the answer is simple: don't allowschool uniforms to be mandatory in public schools! ?

I agree with this article because making students wear uniforms causes more problems rather than solving problems.

I agree that the government should stop enforcing the laws and make kids cut their hair cause it's a rule in school which is nonsense

I don't agree with this article at all. There's numerous of reasons towards why public schools have uniform. The dress code helps towards bullying, some unfortunate students don't have the money to keep up with pricy fashionable trends, most importantly it helps towards our safety considering gangs.

I believe all schools should have uniform bc I think studies show that it creates a better learning atmosphere. Or at least for me it does.

Personally I think that uniforms are very pointless to public school students. I can see why some schools do it because they would like to prevent the students from looking inappropriate. Some schools just get a little ridiculous with all the rules.

I think uniforms are good because no gang violence and people don't really care anymore about it. I think that what people complain about is that schools take too much away from students and they should only care about the uniform not what else students wear.

I think that schools shouldn't have uniforms because every color they choose as a uniform color policy it's consider a gang color no matter what color it is. And no one cares about gangs anymore anyways.

I don't get how cosmetics is just as bad as alcohol. Make up has none of the effects alcohol does. I don't agree with this

I agree that there shouldn't be uniforms in public schools because it is a threat to a student. They can't be free and be comfortable in their own clothes. Uniforms are an example of conformity.

I agree that uniforms shouldn't be part of the school codes anywhere because people should be able to express themselves .

I feel as if uniforms should be allowed in public schools. Only thing that's a problem is when the schools try to take it past telling you about the uniforms that you can wear. Pants and shirts are the only thing that they should have a say in.

Hi Everyone. I suggest NO UNIFORMS!!! They don't change a thing in Public Schooling. The only thing uniforms do is cut down on an indivisual student;person's indiviuality and diffrences. Kids do !!!NOT!!! care about being the same, they just care about having friends. But if we all look the same and act the same, then how do you know if you !!!TRUE!!! friend??? What if a fire broke out atthe school and the parents had to come to the school to pick up their child;child, they would have a really hard time finding her;him...RIGHT??? Now people use you're common sense and !!!STOP!!! Uniforms at Public Schools!!!
