There is a place within Waukesha County where I feel my stress melt, where I feel happiness grow as the sun beams and where I feel at home. This place is Okauchee Lake, and it is a true Waukesha County treasure.

Over the summer, I spend more time at our Okauchee Lake house than I do at my actual home. There’s something about an afternoon wading in the water that makes me feel free and content. There’s so much more to do than swim, however. Maybe you’d like to kayak through hidden canals, journeying, feeling like you just discovered new land. Or perhaps you crave adrenaline, in which case you could hop a jet ski and skim the waves made by other boats. There is not a single person I know that doesn’t love this lake and all it has to offer.

But Okauchee Lake’s worth doesn’t stop at the activities. As the day comes to an end and the sun sets, the sky paints with vibrant hues of colors that reflect off the lake. The shades of yellow and red dance together, then as they tire, fade into darkness and stars. It is hard to believe this is real.

The waters of this lake hold excitement, adventure, and thrills during the day. But as night approaches, the waters hold a picture, a beautiful reminder of the joy it brought to us earlier. Okauchee Lake is truly a treasure of Waukesha County.
