From NO to N.O.
Where does the money that our hard-working taxpayers give to the government go? Workers living in New Orleans pay money every year so that the government can keep our city in order. One of the biggest problems in New Orleans that agitates many people is the streets. In many areas, the roads have cracks or holes in them, which drivers’ car tires can get stuck in or damaged. When tourists or even locals drive down the streets, they do not want to pass by litter. Another major problem in New Orleans is the trash scattered all over the streets and on the sidewalks. People will just walk by, finish their snack, and throw the trash on the ground. There is no one to pick up the trash on the ground, so it continues to pile up and looks very unpleasant. The last issue that should be discussed is the problem of New Orleans’ streets looking predominantly dull. There are trees and other shrub type plants, but there are not many trees or bushes with flowers. When people are driving, they should look around and see the beauty surrounding the roads. Three fixable problems in New Orleans are the cracked streets, trash on sidewalks and roads, and drab areas surrounding the roads.
These problems in the city of New Orleans have simple resolutions, but the whole community has to come together to help. A solution to fix the problem of broken streets, trash, and dull surroundings all over the roads is that people in the community can have fundraisers. The fundraisers will take place at an event such as a fair or a concert. All of the money that is raised will go towards hiring people and purchasing equipment to reconstruct the streets, hiring people to pick up trash, buying trash cans, and planting flowers and trees. Once the government or other organizations use the money that was raised to hire street workers, they can set aside time for them to work on the roads. Government officials will advertise when the workers will be rebuilding the roads and suggest alternative routes so that people can plan ahead. They will try to make this process as convenient as possible for both the workers and the citizens. Another solution that can work to combat cleaning up the streets and beautify the city is advertising that picking up trash and planting flowers are for service hours. Schools can take their students on field trips to plant flowers, bushes, and trees or pick up trash in New Orleans neighborhoods. In addition, more people would want to participate in activities for an incentive such as a prize. The local government or large organizations could offer cash prizes for the groups of people who always participate in planting flowers and picking up debris. With all of these solutions, the problems will be very easy to solve.
Once all of the problems are solved by using the solution methods of fundraisers, service hour opportunities, and incentives. New Orleans will be a much cleaner and beautiful environment. Not only will this clean environment benefit people, but it will also benefit the animals living in trees or near the streets of this city. Once the roads have been repaired, citizens will be thrilled to drive on streets that are not filled with holes, are not bumpy, and are no longer cracked. The even pavement on the streets will be safer for drivers so that it is less likely for their cars to be damaged. Furthermore, tourists who visit our freshly polished city will be astonished at how nice the roads look. The tourists may enjoy their time here a little more than they did in the years past because the streets are no longer uneven and bumpy. When all of the trash is removed from the side of the road and sidewalks, the surroundings will look much nicer than when they were cluttered with debris. After many flowers, trees, and bushes have been planted, the surrounding areas of the city of New Orleans will look very lively and appealing. Not only will the streets look excellent without trash scattered everywhere, but not having litter will serve as a functional purpose. Without garbage cluttering the streets, it is more difficult for roads to flood, and a large factor causing pollution in the city is gone. Thus, the removal of trash will lead to less air and land pollution, and that is an advantage for both humans and animals. In general, tourism could potentially increase for two reasons. One reason is that the people who have recently visited and enjoyed their time in New Orleans can urge their friends and family to travel there. Another reason is that people may see an ad or commercial about how New Orleans has reformed their streets and nearby areas. Both tourists and citizens that come or live in New Orleans will look around and think to themselves, “Wow, the streets in this city are so beautiful, clean, and organized!” When tourists exploring New Orleans drive around and see the clean streets, they will be more inclined to revisit, tell their friends, and spend money there year after year. In turn, the city will profit from tourists spending their money in shops and restaurants all around the area. Everyone will have a better outlook on the city, and riding up and down the streets in New Orleans will be a pleasant, entertaining experience.
