Futbol or Football?
Have you ever thought about what football really is the best? It is true that soccer is the most popular sport in the world but is not in America, football is the favorite. Mens soccer in the U.S. is the seventh most popular sport while football is number one. So it was easy for me to understand why this person liked football over soccer because it is the most popular sport in America. Before putting myself in other people's shoes I had no idea what his or hers point of view may have been. Reflecting on it now then I had no idea what my friends point of view may have been.
The argument was in school at lunch just me and him talking about college football and comparing it to soccer I said it was better but he had a completely different opinion.
My opinion was that soccer was better and demanded more physical activity. I felt this way because I had played the sport since I was four and thought it was the best thing ever since then. First we just started talking about the sports we played and then we compared the two sports which started the whole argument. It was a heated argument at that it escalated quickly with the comment “ Soccer is for girls”, that phrase set me off like a firework. But after the argument we were still friends and we always will be despite arguments and disagreements
His perspective on the argument was that he thought football was the best sport. Reasoning for him to like it could be the same as mine, he could have played it since he was little too and that's all he could have known. All people have their opinions and prefer different sports and that is easy for me to understand.
In conclusion, I have learned that everyone's opinion is not the same and there is a wide spectrum of sports for people to choose from. I have also learned from this that it is hard to change people's opinion when it has been made up or decided. I believe if we had a greater rate of empathy in our school we would have a greater understanding of each other and can help eachother out with our experiences. This is a great approach to making our school a better more understanding place by using more empathy to help eachother out and put each other in a better place.
