In Imitation of Seneca

I would never have thought that my room would be the place where I would find the most comfort. As soon as I enter my room after twisting the brass doorknob, and gently pushing the giant wooden door forward, I am enveloped by a cool fall breeze. Now imagine as you reach my bed, the icy comforter that surrounds the heat of the blankets on my bed. Run your fingers over the sheets, twisted but comforting, and feel the plush pillows all lined up ready to be used. Imagine being so cold so that when you leap into the fortress of blankets and pillows, you are instantly warmed. Lying in the bed you reach outwards and to the right. You touch a cool, hard, and stiff surface. A bendable and flexible lamp shines on your face. You can feel the heat radiating off of it blinding you for just a moment. Stretching out of bed your feet touch the soft and bouncy rug, just a few steps ahead lies another cool, hard, stiff surface. This one is bigger than the one that held the lamp however. You reach across the surface finding pencils and pens. Wrap your hands around them. This must be a desk. Your body is against the drawers and you can feel the knobs press into you as you keep reaching forward. The wind blows sending a chilling breeze at you from two directions. The cold air wraps you in a chill so you move away from it. Moving to the left you find yourself against a wall. Slide your hands down and find that this is no wall but a closet door, you wrap your hands around the knobs and pull them apart, stepping forward, you discover all the clothes tucked away. Reaching outward you find yourself touching the soft and stretchy fabric of leggings. Moving to the left you touch the cool and crisp denim of many pairs of jeans. Sliding your hand more and more to the left you discover big and fluffy sweatshirts, and the warm comforting feeling of wearing one makes you smile. Next you feel a big and heavy pair of sweatpants. Moving on from the closet you stumble upon something soft, but sturdy. Feel it with your hands, and realize that it is a chair. You sit in it for a moment and lean into the welcoming back of the chair. The fabric is soft and relaxing. Hopping off the chair you move one to the left, palpating the wall until you reach another hard surface jutting outwards. You feel heat coming from the top of it. Reach out and touch it, it’s a lamp. Feel around the front of the object, all around are knobs guarding the entrance to each drawer. You pul a few of them open and touch the calico shirts, the denim shorts and the cool fabric of a long sleeved T-shirt. You realize this object is a dresser. After feeling your way through my room you notice how each object has it’s own feeling.
