Your heart a-thumping, you stare wide at the ceiling, afraid, but relieved. You hear the water running and find the sound comforting and you sit there, thinking about all the monsters that haunt you. But you remain calm. The fears that have grounded you suddenly seem to dissipate with the vapor above you, and for those few minutes, you are free. Gone are the chains that strap themselves around your heart, and the common laws of courtesy you so faithfully abide by. Gone is the future with no promise, and the struggle with no love. You are liberated from all that which confines you. You are floating above the clouds. It seems as if your haunted look seems to have been wiped clean by the water slowly submerging it. And in those last few seconds, you think not of your friends, or family, or even the assured peace that is to come. You simply think about how everything could have been, you imagine the struggles you would’ve had to face, the stone-hard expressions you would have had to make, the smiles you would have had to paint so carefully on your face, and the stress that would’ve hung itself around you like a cloud, until it would’ve strangled you. And you think of how happy you are in this instant that you will never feel those things ever again. Because you will be dead. And just as the nob on the bathroom starts to turn, and your parents’ frantic yells emanate, you are immersed in the sudden joy and bliss, as you slowly drift off into nothingness.
