A Letter to Freshmen

Dear Freshmen,

The thought of transitioning into the final adolescent phase, the one that they make all the movies about, was always a scary prospect for me. The classes, first of all, seemed impossibly difficult; I’d always hear about high schoolers pulling “all-nighters” in a rush to finish their work, something that was unheard of in my world up until then. Besides the challenge of being academically successful, popular cinema made it seem like I’d be handed cocaine on a platter while walking through the halls and that I would possibly need facial reconstructive surgery to be considered normal looking. However, everything I was conditioned to believe was in fact a myth. You don’t need to be a genius or an actress or a smooth-talking, slow-walking, full-time comedian and philanthropist to make it through these next few years. If you just stay true to yourself, I promise it will be so worth it in the end. There’s nothing to be afraid of.

Sincerely,
Katrina G.
