An Open Letter to My Dog
No matter my mood, a smile pops up on my face the moment I walk in the door. Your wagging tail and somehow smiling face help me through whatever I’m doing. If I make a mistake, it doesn’t faze you. You love me, despite what flaws I see in the mirror. Your curls manage to be both cute and comforting. When I’m home alone, you stay by my side. I know you’re ready to protect me if I need it.
If I cry, you come up to me. You nudge my arm and silently tell me it’ll be okay. I’ve heard people say dogs can’t smile, but we all know that isn’t true. I’m tired, half-asleep on the couch; I will use all of my energy to raise my arm and pet you.
Things aren’t always fun, you don’t always come in from the yard when I call. We’ll get there, one day. I want to be upset when you won’t listen to me, but you look ecstatic as you run laps around the backyard.
They say dogs are a man’s best friend. I’d tell them that’s not fully true. Puppies are a girl’s best friend. Frankly, every dog is a puppy in my eyes.
Thanks for being my best friend, I love you Pelley.
