Action video games are actually increasing intelligence. Even though the first video game was created in 1958, children have been playing video games ever since the first interactive video game in 1961 (Kudler). Then a new topic has tests that have shown that after playing hours of action video games many skills increase. Gaming increases intelligence because not only does it increase reaction speed, but it also helps sport players, and help society.

To begin, video games fast paced gameplay can help players reaction speed. Every time a person decides to stay away from video games is another time less where they could have strengthened their mind. According to the University of Rochester, “Cognitive scientists from the University of Rochester have discovered that playing action video games trains people to make the right decisions faster. The researchers found that video game players develop a heightened sensitivity to what is going on around them, and this benefit does not just make them better at playing video games, but improves a wide variety of general skills that can help with everyday activities like multitasking, driving, reading small print, keeping track of friends in a crowd, and navigating around town.” So with more and more people playing video games it can help them in the future. Therefore, video games is making the society smarter. Then, after putting dozens of teenagers and young adults to a test they found that after 50 hours with half the people playing slow paced games and the other half playing fast paced games, people playing the fast paced games like “Call of Duty 2” had a faster reaction time to answering questions than to people who played a slowed paced game like “The Sims 2.” The accuracy of the questions was even (University of Rochester). This study has proven the power of video games. If every American household could possess the great enhancement of video games then America will become a much faster place. The reason why the skills increase is because of the fast paced gameplay and split decisions someone would need to make (Peter Gray PhD.). After time of playing, someone could become faster in decision making. This could make decisions much faster and lives much easier. Some may think that all video games do is give addictions. But with certain video game consoles these days there can be a set time and the game shuts down automatically after the set time is up. By playing video games and increasing reaction times the entire society can benefit.

Then, video games can help sports players. In some cases video games could help the injured players. If they are hurt then they could play the video game of the sport to stay with it (New York Times). If a sport player does not play their sport in a long period of time then they start to become worse at the sport. With video games they would stay on their game and would not forget anything. According to Joe Brescia, ““It gets your soccer brain started that day,” explains Mr. Chinn, who began the regimen in college. Each virtual player mimics “the way a player moves, the way they shoot, the way they pass the ball” in real life.” Video Games can mimic the real sport in many ways. It can mimic the accuracy needed in shooting and passing using the thumbsticks. According to the New York Times, “A big reason that athletes find video games so appealing is their increasing level of realism” (New York Times). Due to video games having their graphics increased and updated after each version of the game they feel more real. This lets sports players feel the same as if they were actually playing the sport. Some may say that video games make people obese. But video game timers can set different times where kids could play the game leaving them to have to do something else. Video games could help even sport players. This is one of the true potentials in video games.

Next, video games could help society. They found that video games that lead to skill increase could then lead to better job employees, perhaps for the jobs that require enhanced eye-hand coordination (Peter Gray PhD.). This could lead to better workers who can make companies better. Players can also use the video games to stay connected. It could help them train and learn to work together better (New York Times). With online messaging and online party chats, video games could let people bond and play. According to Peter Gray “Many of the abilities tapped by such games are precisely those that psychologists consider to be the basic building blocks of intelligence” (Peter Gray PhD.). This could help with company leaders. Video games that make people more intelligent is what the society needs for company leaders so that they can improve on their company. Some also say that video games isolate people from society. But with games like “The Sims” people could play with friends and/or other people online. The games could also teach about society. With video games that can help society. The society could pretty much only improve.

Finally, it is shown that video games has a positive effect on the world and holds intelligence. A world with video games is a better, safer, and smarter one. With video games helping people become smarter it is also making the world revolutionary. If more kids play video games then the next generation would be a better one. The society would have better technology and smarter devices. In other words, people need to start playing video games; it would be better for the entire society.
