Infinite Moment
“The Colts win the Super Bowl, the Colts win the Super Bowl!!” Everyone in their life will experience a once in a lifetime experience, or an “infinite” moment that they will never forget. From seeing your favorite singer or team perform, to just feeling great on any normal day, feeling “infinite” is a great feeling. As a six year old, nothing was better than seeing my favorite team, the Indianapolis Colts play in the Super Bowl, primetime in Miami.
When I was in kindergarten I became a big Peyton Manning fan, then a big Colts fan. At the time my dad had a job at CSTV, a college broadcasting channel, which was just bought by CBS. He had a few connections through the TV business, so he bought two upper deck seats, and 2 plane tickets with the hotel booked to Miami. The Monday before the game, he told me about it, and I felt so excited, as this game would be a once in a lifetime experience for me. We flew out Friday morning checked in and began our exciting weekend of football in South Beach. During the day on Friday, we went to an amusement park, played mini golf, and went on go-carts. Saturday we spent most of the day exploring the city, eating out, and enjoying the warm weather. We visited the aquarium down in South Beach, along with eating at a good deli. On Sunday would be the day I was waiting for Super Bowl 41, Colts vs. Bears.
On Sunday my dad and I woke up around 9 a.m. to get ready for the day. The first thing we did was go out to eat, and we found this really good diner downtown by the hotel that had the best pancakes. After that we went very early to Sun Life Stadium to the pregame tailgate. There was a lot to do there, and I did a throwing challenge, and kicking challenge. The game time kick-off was 6:30 and I was eager to go to the seats, so we went in at 4:00. At 5:30 players came out of the tunnel and warmed up and they headed back in after warm-ups. Then pregame rituals went on and there was a pregame performance then the teams came out. After all of this the moment I was waiting for, the game. Kickoff came and the Colts kicked first. Devin Hester, a dangerous kick returner was back, and he caught it. He slashed his way through the defense and cut down the middle for an opening play kickoff return for a touchdown. After giving up a touchdown on the opening play I was very disappointed in the start but still had hope of a good finish. Next possession the Colts fumbled on a botched snap as it began to downpour in South Beach. The rain would continue on for the rest of the game but it did not seem to effect the fans or the players because of the great game they were watching. After the fumble the Bears scored again making the game 14-0. The Colts then were stopped again, but on the Bears next possession the Colts forced a fumble. Then 7:00 minutes remained in the half. The Colts started a long drive from there own twenty, and ended up with a long 3rd and 11 from the Bears 34-yard line. Play action from Manning set up Reggie Wayne wide open, and Peyton lobbed one up to him and Reggie walked into the end zone touchdown! The seconded half was a lot more one sided as the Colts grinded out tough defensive stops, and drove the ball down the field on multiple occasions. They finished the game with 200 rushing yards, mostly because of the difficulty to throw in the rain. One minute was left the Colts were up 29-17, and the team was already beginning celebrations on the sideline, and then 2 lineman came out of nowhere and Gatorade dumped coach Dungy as the clock ran out. The team threw their equipment in the air storming the field as they were handed champion t-shirts and hats, and the front-pages of newspaper with, “Super Bowl XLI Champs, Indianapolis Colts” on them. I felt a rush of joy and excitement as the team ran out in the joy that they had won the Super Bowl. Seeing them run onto the field was a great moment, and for me it would be a once in a lifetime experience to witness. After that the team gathered at the center of the field and raised the trophy as I watched, it was really an infinite moment for me that I would never forget.
