Tubing Adventures
There I was underwater, slowly floating towards the surface of the lake. All I could hear was this ringing noise in my ear. I finally felt the warm air hit my face as I stretched my head up and gasped for air. That was the end to a fun day.
It was a hot sunny Saturday at the cottage on Muskegon Lake, all of the kids were anxious to get in the water and go tubing, including me. My cousin Haley and I began gathering towels and life jackets onto the boat making sure there was enough for everyone. Muskegon lake has a channel connecting to a smaller lake called Bear Lake. When we go tubing we always go to Bear Lake because it’s calmer. Everyone got on the boat and we took off.
Bear lake was busier than ever, which is what I was expecting for such a perfect day. We threw the tubes in the water, “Please let me go first” I whined to my uncle. It was too late the little kids were already on the tubes. They always got to go first. I started to gently let the rope out into the water, I could smell my own skin burning from the hot sun. My uncle who was driving the boat went slow for the little kids so they wouldn’t fall off, they were scared of the water.
Finally it was my turn, I got to go with my aunt and Haley. Since we are all older my uncle didn't drive slow, I already knew it was going to be a crazy ride. The boat started to move and all 3 of us were grasping the handless for our lives. My uncle started to drive in circles, we hit a huge wave and my aunt went flying off on the left side, then Haley, and then me. We were all flying through the air, I hit the side of my head on Haley. “This is going to hurt” I thought to myself hitting the water head first.
There I was underwater my head was spinning, I watched the air leak out of my mouth. Right when I wasn’t able to hold my breath any longer my face hit the surface of the water. I floated there until the boat came around beside me. I had no idea where my aunt and Haley were. I couldn’t focus on anything besides the stinging feeling on the side of my head. I couldn't hear besides this ringing noise in my ears. I felt like I was in a movie, the world was moving in slow motion, everything was silent besides the annoying ringing noise in my ears. I finally convinced myself to swim to the boat.
“Are you okay?” my uncle called out to me before I even got on the boat.
I responded, “I guess so, but I can't really feel my head.”
My Grandma cut into the conversation and yelled, “Kennedy your head is bleeding!”
I told her my head was fine and that it was numb so I couldn’t feel it anyways.
I splashed my face with water to rinse the blood off then slowly climbed up the latter of the boat. My aunt and Haley were already on the boat. They were sitting there and looked like they were hurting as much as me. Everyone was saying that the wipeout looked like it hurt a lot. I convinced my grandma that my head was okay and then went waddling to the front of the boat so I could lay down.
Now I knew that next time we go tubing I didn’t want to go as fast. My uncle drove us through the channel entering Muskegon Lake again. We rode back to the cottage, “I wonder why everyone is so quiet” I asked myself. Haley and I were the first ones to hop off the boat, we walked as slow as turtles up the dock. It was only 5 at night, but we were completely exhausted, we went straight to bed skipping dinner.
