Sharing Books

Earlier this year, I learned that a friend of mine hated to read. She had been reading the same book for over three months, and had read that book series several times. Immediately I decided that she was in desperate need of help. I recommended a book to her, hoping that it would help her get over her book phobia and before I knew it, we were in our own little book club. We argued constantly about who the main character should date, (She eventually agreed that I was right, and we have been in love with him ever since.) we quoted our favorite characters back and forth, shared predictions, and even wrote fan fiction. Books have become something that she enjoys rather than a chore. We’ve pretty much started a two-girl-fangirl-club. Of course, it’d be great to have others join us, we have relentlessly tried to get others to pick up that book, (It's called Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, and it's truly magnificent.) but currently, we are its sole readers at our small school, but at least I can call myself a hipster reader when that book gets big, as it very likely will.

Since I recommended my friend her now favorite book, we have shared in reading several others, when we read a book together it's all we can talk about, much to the annoyance of friends outside of our book circle. It’s truly amazing to see how sharing books with others can bring you closer, I hope to do the same with others in the future.
