Being 13
Last month, on September 21, 2014, I turned 13. On that day, some of my friends were being really kind and were sending Happy Birthday messages to me and two of them sent a message with a question.
Two of the messages I received said…
Cesar: “Happy Birthday”
Me: “Thank You”
Cesar: “How does it feel to be 13?”
Me: “ Lol… I don’t know yet…”
Mimi: “Happy bday Nia… Happy bday noble heads”
Me: “ Thank you”
Mimi: “ How does it feel being 13?”
Me: “ Lol! I don’t know.”
For some reason, I always think about these questions. It seems like a lot of people asked me that same question, “how does it feel?” For some reason, turning 13 made people think about me differently. They thought of me as an older person all of a sudden. Maybe they thought of me as more grown up.
As days go on, however, I think about how I’m not going to change. I’m still a girl. All that really changed was my age. My behavior will not change. I don’t do anything wrong, I don’t think as my self as a goody to shoes, but I’m a good person. When I was younger, I didn’t know right from wrong, but now that I’m older, I know how to do things differently. I know now that I should treat others I want to be treated, while when I was a kid I used to say things to hurt people. My personality will never change. I am who I am. I feel more independent than dependent since I’m older. I know how to make sure I’m good in a lot of things. Now that I am 13, I can do and try new things that interest me. I am a teenager that can have a little freedom now.
Now, I have a few questions for you, readers. How did you feel when you turned 13 or how do you feel now that you are 13? For readers who are about to turn 13, what are some things you think you will be good? What do you think you are going to continue to be good at? And, last question, how will you feel when you enter your teenage years?
Sincerely,
Nia V.
