I could feel the excitement building up.”Today is it,” I thought to myself,” everything I’ve worked for all year matters.” My coach Nikki pushed open the doors to the district competition. Our team waked in single file with our game faces on.

As we circled the gym for warm-up, I shook with nerves. My team practiced each apparatus, before we began. First to floor, “Step, leap, back extension roll,” I whispered. Feet bounding, arms pumping, I hurdled for a round-off back handspring. Once I had finished my intricate routine, the judges held up a 9.8! I knew that in order to have my team dominate, I must do an outstanding performance.

The head official announced the total team scores after the first rotation. He called fifth, fourth, and third, our name had not been uttered. Only behind by two points, we took second place! The crowd roared with applause. We needed to take the lead. I performed every routine skillfully, receiving above a nine on everything. Our whole team did an astonishing job. With our top competitor left to take the floor, the results were posted. We was still in second. She finished, the viewer held up a perfect ten! My squad was in awe!

All twenty teams piled into the stands, and waited anxiously, as the judges tallied up the final scores. It was down to the top five. “In second, being beat by 1.2 points is World of Gymnastics. Last but not least, with a well deserved win, ladies and gentlemen, your 2013 first place winner!” My trainer and team couldn’t even speak, we were in complete shock.

I dashed to the block with my group for pictures, receiving our gleaming, gold medals. Now it’s back to the gym for practice, until our next meet. When all individuals labor together as a team, they can achieve any goal possible.
