Life brings many challenges to you. One of them being high school. I know that many people may look on this and laugh but high school has been my hardest adventure yet. Struggling with fitting in, school work and dealing with morals, I find myself at the most stressful point in my life. After graduating 8th grade and figuring out that I was going to Grandville in the fall, I figured it would be a piece of cake! Boy, was I wrong.
Even though I had many amazing teachers and a very helpful counselor, I was constantly stressed about almost everything and trying to figure out how to manage all the work. Almost every day I had piles and piles of homework to do. Tests, quizzes, and projects kept getting more difficult by the semester.
One of the hardest times was when two amazing kids passed away, it confused and hurt me to have the realization that people can leave just like that. Then, a week later, I got a text from my friend telling me that an old friend from my middle school had a tumor in her head and was threatened by cancer. When I came home after school that day I found out that my Oma was hurt and it could affect the way she lives. I could feel my stamina breaking down.
I'd like to say I pieced myself back together in one day, but sadly no, it took many months and I still struggle with the sadness from time to time. But throughout that period I came to learned to cherish the time you have with the ones who are still here, be nice to everyone, and to be happy. In realizing that, I also came to face the fact that even in my first year of high school, I learned more than just cell division, the French Revolution, Pythagorean triples, tragedies of Romeo and Juliet, or how to say 'I need to go to the bathroom' in Spanish. I learned how to be more patient and kind to others. I learned to be understanding and outgoing. I learned that being positive is everything, but it didn’t end there. This has only been my first year in this new domain, I still have 3 more years to apply and keep these concepts and hopefully, I'll grow even more than I did in this past year.
