In the state of Delaware, bullying is a crime and you can go to jail for it.
Bullying is wrong and can lead people to death or harming themselves in a terrible way. Bullying needs to stop because if this situation grows more, it can be come an even bigger problem.

The non-fiction novel “The Bully” by Paul Langan published in 2002 is about a young 9th grade boy by the name of Darrell Mercer getting bullied at his new school. In the beginning, he has a hard time dealing with his move because he doesn’t want to leave his best friend. He didn’t want to make new friends or meet new bullies. His mother wanted to move from Philadelphia to California because of her job. When he moves to California, he becomes sad and depressed because he misses his hometown.

When he travels to California by bus he unpacks some and goes to sleep. The next day, he goes to the supermarket and meets a nice girl that goes to his new school, Bluford high. He is scared to go to school because he doesn’t want to meet any bullies. Darrell can’t fight so his friend back at home always fought off bullies for him. On his first day of school, a boy named Tyray started to bully him. He didn’t want to get beat up so he paid Tyray $10 every Friday.

As I was reading the book, I reacted in surprise. Personally, I don’t like to read at all but I actually liked this book. This book is very entertaining and suspenseful. I like this book a lot because there is a moral behind the story. This book shoes that bullying is wrong and you shouldn’t bully anyone because you may mess with the wrong person and end up hurt. I love the setting of the story because the time period is in the 90’s. This book affects me because I have been bullied in my life and it teaches me to be strong and to stand my ground.

If you love suspense, this novel is for you. It is very relatable because what’s in the book still happens today. People are still getting bullied today and everyday so this book is great for people who like relatable stories about their everyday life.
