Auditions
Performing in front of another human being is completely and utterly nerve wrecking. With one person having the power to fully define your dreams; it’s a lot to take in. Even worse, performing at an audition for American Idol can be devastating. As the hours begin to pass and the people begin to leave, only about 20 have been lucky enough to be chosen to go to the next round. I’ve seen hundreds of people give it their all and all that resulted is an exit through the “Non-winners” door. I hear voices all around me; some beautiful and some more terrible than you could imagine. To many in this auditorium, this is a joke. This is a chance. To me, it’s a big step. As my row of people is chosen to spill our hearts out on a silver platter, my best friend high fives and says “Go get em Joben!” This is now my sanctuary. I walk to the front of the producer with confidence and I open my mouth to sing. There’s no going back at this point. When I’m finished, they grab my arm, place the cold scissors on my wrist and cut of my contestant wrist band. I now exit through the “Non-Winners” door.
