Falling for Fall
The air was chilly, leaves casting shadows onto the pavement. The sky was a clear blue, revealing colder weather was coming. The leaves began to change colors, the reds, yellows, and browns came together to change the scenic view. Eventually, they would float away, leaving the trees to shiver in the breeze.
The wind whipped through my hair, as I stood on the street corner. I noticed people's smiles widening with change of atmosphere, moods shifted before my very eyes. I turned the corner and quickened my pace. As I glanced around, I noticed the newly placed Halloween decorations in all of the businesses windows.
As I walked home, I thought of my plans for the evening. Then, the moment I stepped into the driveway I got into my grandparents car and we were off to collect my best-friend. We were off for a night of Halloween fun. The red lady bug costume awaited me in my friends bag, as did the skeleton make up that my friend wore. As we drove to our destination, I thought of others, as I passed young children already out trick-or-treating on the street, and the houses of young adults who would be getting ready for parties.
Weeks after Hallows Eve had passed, the other holiday was just around the corner. I waited for Thanksgiving impatiently. My uncle would be arriving any day now, and we would have the same tradition as always. On Thanksgiving we gathered around my grandparents table and gorged ourselves with turkey, mashed potatoes, and casseroles. Spending the night together with joyous laughter and shenanigans. Along with the replay of the same fight my grandparents have over the turkey every year.
After the holidays passed, the cold grew stronger, the chilling breeze never leaving the air. The scorching heat of summer finally bids us farewell. Soon, everyone will be rushing to the back of their closets to retrieve long lost hoodies, jackets, and boots. Many of my friends have already began planning their holiday vacations, with Holiday break just around the corner.
As I descended upon my normal walk to school, I noticed something changed. The squirrels no longer chase each other through the tall pine trees, for they have hidden themselves away for the winter. Glancing into the sky, I no longer see birds flying in harmony with the clouds. The have migrated further south to get away from the cold.
All of this combines to create my favorite season. As the days pass, I fall even more in love with fall. Even after all these years, there has been no change in the way I wait for the season. The twinkle in my eyes grows every year as it approaches Hopefully, as I grow the joy I carry for fall with remain the same.
