Life lesson number one
You always hear your parents telling you not to do something, and you tell them you would never be that stupid right? Well in your teenage years you’re going to screw up a lot more than you think. Actually the more you screw up, the more life lessons you learn, and you can tell your kids about your screw ups so maybe they will make better choices than you did. Nothing teaches a kid better than getting caught doing something they’re not supposed to do.
One of my many life lessons are sneaking out. When you are in the process of getting outside everything freaks you out, and I mean everything. A Leaf falls from a tree and you go berserk, I don’t know if your mind is saying that’s your parents watching you, or something? Eventually you realize it’s nothing to freak out about. Once your completely away from your yard you relax a little, and feel like your never going to get caught, but not everything has a good ending.
My story starts out with me and my friend on the phone, he was telling me how him and his brother were going to “borrow” his mom’s van and take it for a joy ride, they were telling me I should go, but of course I knew better. Somehow he talked me into it, I thought to myself, what would be the hurt in a little joy ride? So later that night I waited for my aunt and uncle to go to bed. After waiting for a while this bad feeling in my stomach brew bigger every minute. It was about an hour since they went to bed, when they called to tell me they were outside. As I stealthily went out the back door, trying not to wake the house up, I almost told myself to go back and just go to bed, but I kept going. I walked down my driveway and they were down the road waiting with the lights off. I quickly jumped in and we were off. Careful not to wake the town, our way of course was going 65 in a 35 down Tropical trail.
We were speeding with no place to go, so I insisted we go to my favorite fishing spot on the river. We relaxed there for a while, it was gorgeous out there, but not gorgeous enough to keep us from getting attacked by mosquitoes, so as quick as we started we were off again to pretty much nowhere. After a while of driving we called it a night at 3:00 a.m. Once I was back home I snuck in as easily as I snuck out, and the first thing I thought when I flopped in my bed was, “I didn’t get caught”, and with a smirk I fell asleep almost instantly. The next morning I woke up and cautiously walked into the kitchen, they said good morning and everything seemed fine, cause it actually was at the time. The whole day I was still on edge of getting caught.
By the end of the day I was convinced I was never getting caught, just for it to be a fun memory. That night my aunt got a call that got me grounded for three miserable months. My friend’s mom had somehow figured out they snuck out, and he called me later and told me that he never said anything about me, cause he didn’t want me to get in trouble. But his younger brother had ratted me out to save his own butt. So I had no social life for what felt like forever. I think the moral of the story can be one of two things, don’t sneak out or just don’t get caught. I have defiently learned my lesson, not just because I got grounded, I also lost all of their trust, and am still gaining it back to this day.
