I pitch forward into nothing; everything is dark and silent, and I swear I can feel the blackened room hold its breath. My eyes quickly adjust and small, dim orange lights slip between the window blinds, the moon and stars behind dimmed. I spied the open bedroom door, a portal to evil, and the shapeless masses beyond seemed to sneak closer, and the dark silence challenged reality. Air rushed in and out of my lungs uncontrollably. I tried to keep a level head, and snatching my glasses off the bedside table, I desperately pulled them on.
Terror melted into relief as the figures and monsters disappeared. Still wary of the night, I laid back in bed, my glasses still askew on my nose, and I let a more relaxing dream envelop me.
