The Yard

The yard didn’t change from the first time I stepped foot there and when I left. The yard was like a park where families and friends would gather and have a great time. In the neighborhood surrounding it there was always new construction going on and there were always changes, but the yard never changed. The yard didn’t change because people didn’t want it to change, they didn’t allow for new houses to be put into that designated area. I have many wonderful memories from the yard..I remember how kids would be running around getting dirt all over them while their parents watched and scowled at them for it. People would always be out there sometimes having picnics or walking on the field. It was always a busy place with many activities going on.

There was green luscious grass between two tall houses, one house across from the other. The two houses on this side of the field didn’t change much, but they still had a little remodeling, from time to time. One house was a lighter green and the other was a light gray. They both had the smooth textures of a new coat of paint. They both had well designed windows that would shine from the sun, you could see the glimmer from the yard. One of the windows from the green house had a mosaic. A colorful forest with a river stream was drawn with astonishing colors. They had different shades of green, brown, and blue. The land was shaped like a diamond. There was so much room you could put a whole Walmart there.

You could always hear birds chirping from the Macadamia trees surrounding the field. There were tons of birds with different colors, blue, green, and purple. You could smell the Macadamia nuts. They had a sweet and earthy smell, sometimes people would eat them straight from the tree. They were all over the ground and would hurt your feet if you stepped on them.

There was a lot of spacious land where kids would play games rolling around in the soft grass. The grass was very soft, soft enough to sleep on. Kids would get a stark color of brown dirt all over them making their parents furious.

You could also smell all the wonderful fragrances from people grilling. Sometimes people would grill burgers and hot dogs at get-togethers. It was a blissful smell. There was one green electrical box where kids would meet and talk about random childish things. This spot was the main hangout for all the kids.

At the field I would play a lot of sports with the others. We would play games like tag, football, or baseball. In our heads we would tell ourselves that there is more on the line than a mom giving us free Capri Suns to the winners. We would play until the street lights turned on but we would always be out there the very next day.

You could be there all day with nothing to do and still have a great time. There were tons of people to talk to and get to know. I remember all the great and funny memories I had at the yard, to the time I got chased by a mini chihuahua to the time I hit a homerun with the whole neighborhood watching me. The yard was a great place.
