This I Believe Speech
When I was tweleve years old, I was waiting in the doctors office to see what was wrong with my back. They had told me I had a 35 degree curve in my lower back and a 65 degree curve in my upper back. My doctor had told me back surgery was my only option.
I had then got schedueled on the second day of junior high school. I was already nervous going to a new school and now I have to skip a month and a half of school. I didn’t want to be known as the new girl. I didn’t have much time to prepare for something big like this! I had less then two weeks to prepare.
My doctor explained to me that I will have to go through orientation with someone who went through the same thing that I was going to go through. We went to hospital where I was getting my surgery done and met up witht the people that were going to walk me throught the whole process. We walked through every little thing. They talked about what I was going to be hooked up on during surgery and after. They had a big talk on how many things could go wrong like being on a ventilator and losing oxygen. They showed me what my back would look like after surgery and what I have to do to recover quickly. The doctors know that I danced and they wanted to make sure I recovered fast, so I can go back to dance! After the orientation I went home and started preparing for the surgery.
Then surgery day finally happened. August 7, 2016, was the day I got my surgery. I remember waiting in the waiting room and doing all my technique right before I went in because I knew that I was going lose most of my flexibility and technique. They then put me in a room where each doctor that was going to be opertaing on me or helping out during the srugery and tell me what they do, and then they would put me under. I started freaking out when the last doctor came in because I know i was going to get put under. So they put an IV into, me so I would calm down, after that I don’t remember anything.
As I woke up the surgery was over and all my friends came to visit. I went home in the three days. Then a year later I finally could dance again and made the comapny dance team here at the school. To conclude everything, anyone can get through anything you put your mind too. Recovering is hard but to know, that every little step to get there, it’s totally worth it.
