Procrastinate like a Pro
You have had a paper for two weeks, and you decide to start it the night before. You’ve been distracted by many other things, such as naps, snacking, or Netflix, and now you are frantically trying to finish this paper. All the time that you have wasted on not doing your paper is because of my trusty friend, procrastination. Procrastination is a great way to delay your time and not think about your homework. You know it will get done, but the end result may leave you a little bleary-eyed the next day. Some people, like me, procrastinate all the time instead of doing their homework. Speaking as a pro on this subject, I would like to share the following steps I find to be most helpful in procrastinating.
The first step of procrastination is to check your assignments due the following day. Seeing what you have for homework will help you plan your procrastinating process for that night. If you have very little homework, then you should procrastinate for a long time, and if you have plenty of homework, then you should not procrastinate for a long time to give yourself enough time to complete the assignment. This may take a few nights of tears, stress, and threats of punishment before actually mastering it. When I know that I have a bunch of homework, I try not to put it off until the last minute, but when I do not have a bunch of homework, then I procrastinate as much as I can possibly squeeze into the night. After checking your assignments for the night, take out all of the supplies that you need from your school bag to begin. I personally like to waste time on this step as well by making sure that I have the perfect pen or making sure that I have just the perfect amount of loose leaf to begin. This way, you can see everything that you will need for homework that night is set up and awaits your return. Now that you have everything that you need to begin your homework, it is time to start the procrastinating process.
Then, it is time to start the procrastinating process. Personally, I find that watching Netflix, napping, or eating a snack is a great start. I have no chance of checking my iPhone during the school week because my house rules have taken this distraction away from me. Procrastinating will help you relax from a long day of school work and also, will help you unwind from your long day. By long day, I am talking about the time from when you leave your house each morning until you return each afternoon. I would definitely consider something that can help you relax after your long day. Some other things that you could do instead of doing your homework might be to scroll through your social media account, watch YouTube videos, or clean your room. Really… clean your room? I just wanted to see if you were paying attention. Anything that takes up plenty of time would be great to do while procrastinating. To me, procrastinating is a great way to relax after a long day at school. Now, once you are done procrastinating, it is time for you to start your homework.
Finally, you can begin to do your homework for the night. Go back to the place that you have to set up to do your homework, and use all of the materials for your homework that you have set out before you started procrastinating. These materials will now be used to start your homework. Try to stay focused. At this point in the process you have no time to waste. Finish as much of your homework as you can before the night ends so you do not have to worry about too much homework for the following day. In the end, you are finally done with all of your homework and can go about your night with little time left to shower and get a decent night’s rest, or you can begin procrastinating for your next assignment the following day.
In summary, these steps help to teach you how to properly procrastinate. When you first start the process, you need to make sure that you can handle the pressure of procrastinating. It is not for everyone. The next part of the process is to start the procrastinating process. The final step is to complete your homework assignments and hope it ends well. Procrastination is something that you can look forward to everyday knowing that it gives you a time to relax and not worry about anything else while you are in that zone. Now, you know how to procrastinate like a pro!
